The Armed Man
The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace" by Karl Jenkins is a powerful musical work that blends elements from various religions and cultures to reflect on war and peace. Composed in 1999 and now transcribed for SATB chorus, organ, and brass band, it uses the Catholic Mass as a framework while incorporating diverse musical styles and texts. From a 15th-century folk song to Arabic prayers, Japanese poetry, and Hindu scriptures, the piece journeys through themes of conflict, loss, and hope, ultimately concluding with a message of peace and solace from the Book of Revelation.
